MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) - The Detroit Lions have unveiled a new look that will compliment their new line-up, when they take to the field this fall.
The Lions President Tom Lewand issued the following statement along about the new look: "We will consistently present the Lions as a first-class organization with a clear sense of mission and direction. We have made several significant changes this offseason in accordance with that commitment. The introduction of this new brand identity is another element of that process. Today is an exciting and historic day for this franchise."
"The new identity retains many important aspects of our history in terms of our primary mark and our colors. However, the evolution allows us to present our Lions brand and visual identity in new, versatile and distinctive ways. We stand firmly committed to improving the team on the field. That success is always the most determinative factor of any NFL brand."
The new logo now comes complete with an eye, teeth and other detailing, making it look more like a lion, not just an outline of one. The logo also comes with a new type face that seems more aggressive.
The team's uniforms haven't been changed much, but the lettering has gotten a revamp. The old block letters are gone, replaced by one that look more animalistic, and less produced. The stripes on the helmets, shoulders and pants have been simplified and are now consistent with each other.
